wtf? 4 years ago my brother (parents) had to pay $2000 for his "tablet PC" from HP in highschool. This works out to what, $470 a piece? Give me a break.
Just take off a zero; $479 apiece. Not ... that ... hard.

Why businesses need to often discount in the first place?
The education sector is a large reason apple still exists in the first place. A discount isn't much to ask.

How much money round that table??!!

That's a lot of money in one room!:eek:

Haha, that's what I was thinking! :D Very powerful and influential people around that table. Kind of odd and surreal! They are just normal people.

He doesn't look anywhere near as bad as he did in those "genuine" photographs from a certain news organisation.

I can't seem to find those pics. Did they publish them? Do you have a link?

Notice Steve is the only guy without wine?

He is undergoing treatment for cancer.
What is so strange about him not drinking alcohol?

Actually, there are just two guys with Wine in the whole room, they all have water or something like that... (Check out the big flickr pic from the previous poster)

Yes it looks like there are other people with water but does Steve drink? I don't think he does.

Everyone is dressed up but Steve....awesome.

He did wear a tux to the oscars at least.

Ya it was weird seeing Steve in a tux or anything but his standard uniform haha! :D

I would honestly love to see his closet lol! Probably like Earnest... Nothing but black turtle necks, Levis jeans, and NewBalance sneakers haha! :p

[SIZE=1]Get better for the sake of mankind, mr jobs!

    No kidding! Please Steve! :(

Good to see that's Steve is still well enough to attend such things. Still very thin mind you.

    Yes, for sure!

Ill agree with you on Lack of Education and Religious Extremism. Resentment, somewhat. I tend to think that if we just leave them the heck alone to do whatever they want and be as Shariah as they please we will see less terror attempts.
Terrorism typically arises from some sort of injustice. I think there is some truth to the clich "one man's terrorist is another man's freedom fighter." But "leaving them alone" is somewhat problematic as long as we support multinational enterprise that seeks to extract maximum profit in every corner of the world. Even if the business s not based in America, America is the most prominent target.
I know it is not apples-to-apples, but I was wondering if anyone has seen the National Geographic on North Korea? One part that struck my nerve was at the end when the doctors were removing the bandages from the patients eyes, one of the North Koreans first thing to do was go praise a poster of Ill and promise to "Destroy the american scum with my new eyes" or something like that, despite the fact that much of the equipment used to complete the surgeries was American made and American funded IIRC.

Most likely, the government expects this sort of show of loyalty, when they are paying for your treatment. If you do not do this, you would probably labeled as seditiously ungrateful and they would find some way to make your life miserable.

Can anyone confirm this? It's so annoying when new features are turned on by default. I guess I just need to delete my account. I have a fb, but never check it, but I keep it around just because I get an email if somebody sends me a message on there and then I contact them back. Facebook is just awful, worst mistake signing up for it. If you don't have one DON'T GET ONE!!

I want pilotwings. I have loved that series and was seriously upset that I went two whole home console generations without seeing a sequel to Pilotwings / Pilotwings 64.

So looks like I will be buying a 3DS.

Is Pilotwings a launch title ?

I think you mean an i5 or i7 ULV sandy bridge. The cpu will be much stronger but the graphics will be weaker (compared to the 320m nvidia chipset). Sandy bridge integrated graphics are twice arrandale graphics.

Don't fall prey to the megahertz myth. Clock speed is not all. I've got a 3.2 GHz Pentium 4 computer (desktop) and my 1.66 GHz core 2 duo (laptop) completely destroys it, even on single threaded tasks. Core 2 duo was extremely efficient compared to pentium 4.
Benchmarks for the i7 2657M (the best ULV processor). It looks pretty good. 3D mark 06 was better than the standard voltage i3 2310. It ranks around an arrandale standard voltage i3 for most of the benchmarks. In some it even passes some of the i5 CPUs. But for this to happen it needs good cooling.

i was actually referring to Arrandales not SBs. SBs are far superior compared to the Arrandales. The Arrandale ULVs arent exactly fast.

I actually have a thread on this here

Just picking a couple posts here to illustrate that it helps if you are looking for something that is at all plausible.

    Its quite simple

    -A 15" version
-with larger battery capacity (5 hours heavy usage instead of 3)
    -2 USB 3.0 ports
-and a built in 4G internet connection.

Then the MBA would be unbeatable.

Sorry, but a 15" MacBook Air would confuse the market too much - you're going to have to wait for the lines to merge in a year or two on that one. Already the 11.6" MBA is being referred to as the true expression of what a MBA is - sacrifice almost everything to the gods of Small and Light. A 15" would be an anachronism. Your larger battery will also have to wait for the likely MBP/MBA merger.

USB3 won't appear on an Apple product until Intel integrates it into their chipset, and that won't happen until Ivy Bridge. Thunderbolt is a given, however, and adapters will give you access to USB3 devices and bandwidth.

I suspect that Apple will point you towards an iPad if integrated 3G/4G is something you can't live without - they can justify producing extra SKUs for multiple carriers in an iPad-sized market, but not for the much smaller MBA market.

There have been many intel gpu based machine that had 1600x900 res displays, like the C2D Vaio Z or some of the offerings from Lenovo. I don't see why apple can't give such a res with to the 11.6in MBA with a 350nit display and wide color gamut. Then just add and SD card slot, make the usb ports 3.0 and a maybe even add a thunderbolt port and I'd be the first in line to get one.

There are already people complaining about difficulty reading from an 11.6" MBA screen, so higher resolution seems like a non-starter until they can get much higher-res screens in production (think 2x current res) that will allow them to scale screen elements to keep UI controls at the current size while giving higher user data resolution. Also, given the market that the MBA is selling to (mostly general-use, with low weight the overwhelming concern), Apple is unlikely to source a higher-gamut (and higher-priced) screen when most of the market doesn't even know what 'gamut' means.

Thanks for the pics kingdonk. It looks like the Open Directory service is there in the pictures, although maybe it's unconfigurable at the moment. I do not see NFS which is surprising.

Overall, with the killing of the Xserve and Apple catering OS X Server more to the SOHO, it will be a tough sell since a lot of 2-10 person shops that don't require more than 500GB can probably have most of their infrastructure on the cloud.

If they need massive amounts of storage and not a lot of physical space then an XServe would fit better with a RAID attached and backup unit.

NFS is there, just keep your eyes peeled and you will see it some where in the screen shots along with samba and ipad file sharing.

    Devil's Advocate:

I bought a Netbook Holiday Special ($199 normally $399 with ATI chip and graphics and Win 7 Home Premium) from the MS Store last Dec.

MS took off the manufacturer's build (with tons of bloat-ware) and put their own on. It included a lot MS of extras (photo, video editing, music editor - sounding familiar?) and their premium Anti-Virus with lifetime subscription.

When it booted, it only asked for my username and the type of network to connect to (again - familiar? LOL)

I haven't had any problems with it whatsoever...

    Just food for thought...

A lot of people on this board forget that Windows is the OS leader for a reason...

    Universal licensing.

    Oct 16, 04:13 PM (

Appleinsider reports ( that Apple has filed for another trademark for the "iPhone" term on September 15th with "a Far Eastern trademark office". The filing describes the iPhone as under "handheld and mobile digital electronic devices for the sending and receiving of telephone calls, faxes, electronic mail, and other digital data; MP3 and other digital format audio players".

Apple's rumored phone has been dubbed "iPhone" due to Apple's ownership of the ( domain name for the past seven years. Apple, however, owns a number of unused domain names (

More evidence of a legitimate interest in the iPhone name came when Apple filed for iPhone trademarks in Australia ( and the UK ( in 2002. This is only the latest filing is of iPhone trademarks. Interestingly, another company ( has the iPhone trademark in the U.S.

Meanwhile, Prudential analysts ( released a research note to their clients indicating that according to their "checks", Apple's entry into the phone market would come in two forms. One model is expected to be a "smart phone" with integrated keyboard, video and music capabilities while the other model would be a slimmer phone that just played music.

Reportedly, there are some concerns about market acceptance and battery life and Apple is only planning to market the phones in limited quantities to test the market.

Incidentally they also believe that the long rumored "wide screen video iPod" will begin production in the December quarter, but is not expected to see a release until next year.

    Good news? or bad news?

What does this mean to us?

    Apr 12, 05:44 PM
I chose Verizon for my iPad 2, but I have AT&T for my iPhone 4. I figured that would give me the best of both worlds. I haven't had any issues with my iPhone 4 service, but I think Verizon is more reliable on the whole. And, for what I do on my iPad 2, Verizon speeds are good for me.

    Jun 11, 01:12 AM
Just when I decided to finally get my first iPhone from at&t. What's the expiration date on this rumour?

    Mar 23, 05:31 PM
5 years ago Apple was pushing open standards with no licensing require (ie, zeroconf) and no one would buy in. Now they offer a standard with a fraction of the capability and charge for it and everyone wants it.

There's a world of difference between extending basic Internet protocols and making a method for streaming videos to set-top devices that actually just works.

The former *has* to be open and license-free to gain any level of traction or standardization, and Apple has done a good job with it -- the drafts for mDNS and DNS-SD (which combine to make Bonjour) are both still active and standards-tracked at IETF. Expect them to become full RFC internet standards before long.

The latter generally means selling a chip (or licensing its design) to other manufacturers. There's both the expectation that this is how things are done, and likely a legal need to charge for it to cover patent licensing fees.

Is there a catch to this deal? Do you have to buy a MiFi and sign up for some sort of data plan?
    $299 is ridiculously tempting.
